Burqueños for Education and Empowerment Announces 2016 BEE Scholarships Recipients
BEE Scholarships Awards Four Scholarships to Albuquerque-metro High School Seniors
Albuquerque, NM May 6, 2016: Burqueños for Education and Empowerment (BEE) is thrilled to announce the 2016 BEE Scholarships recipients! The BEE Scholarships Scholarship Committee has selected four students from Albuquerque and Rio Rancho who demonstrate leadership, accountability, academic achievement, and community service. Most importantly, as a reflection of the values of BEE, these students were also selected for overcoming adversity, both personally and academically. BEE seeks to help those students that have a history of making personal change and growth and desire more for their future, regardless of past mistakes.
“It was a very difficult process due to the many qualified applicants,” said BEE Scholarships Scholarship Committee Chair Diana Garcia. “After many deliberations, we felt we picked great award winners.”
BEE would like to take this opportunity to thank the many friends and supporters whom have contributed both time and money to allow BEE to provide scholarships to students. BEE is forever grateful and inspired to do more for students because of the generosity of support for BEE.
The following is a list of the 2016 BEE Scholarships recipients:

Deissy provided some advice to future students considering applying for the scholarship, saying, “I would advise [students] to fill out the application regardless of their grades” as it can really help students “who want to make a change in their educational career.”
Deissy also thanks her parents, her close friends and teachers for providing her the support she needed to get to where she is today. Deissy also plans on studying to become a Physical Therapist at the University of New Mexico.

Cristina plans on attending Central New Mexico Community College and then transfer to the University of New Mexico where she looks to double-majoring in both Business and Veterinarian Medicine, with the hopes of opening up her own practice, saying she wants to “help all the animals I can.” Cristina thanks her father for being there for her and helping her get to where she is today. Cristina also encouraged other students to apply for BEE Scholarships advising students “to be themselves when writing the essays.”
Gillary Rivero- Rio Rancho High School Gillary plans to use her scholarship award wisely by putting the money into her savings account and continue to add to it over the summer “in order to have a substantial amount for the fall semester…for the necessary textbooks or tuition.”
Currently, Gillary is undecided on what to study in college, but is considering something in the dental field. She has her parents to thank the most, “for always staying by our sides motivating my siblings and I to strive for a better life starting with our education.”
When asked what she wants to do after college, Gillary said she “would like to visit all my other family in Mexico and help them out financially to the best of my abilities.” Continuing, Gillary would also like to help her parents achieve their dream of opening up their own business “as a way of thanks for everything they’ve done for me.” She also offered some advice to future BEE Scholarships applicants, saying “to not doubt yourself and give your best while applying!”
Tatyana was really excited when she first found out she had been awarded a BEE Scholarship. “I was surprised and excited to have won the scholarship, because I’ve applied to many scholarships and it was the first I heard from,” said Tatyana. She plans to use the scholarship money to pay tuition and fees when attending Fort Lewis College in Colorado.
Tatyana plans to study both psychology and criminology beginning gin the fall. Eventually, her goal is to attend law school and pursue a career as a defense attorney.
Tatyana has many thanks, but particularly so for her mom, who has helped her out the most, saying, “she gave me the ambition to succeed through the process of applying for scholarships and schools” and has had a big role in “helping me to get where I am today.” Tatyana also offered advice for future BEE applicants: “get involved in your community and don’t be afraid to apply.”
