Burqueños for Education and Empowerment, also known as BEE, is an Albuquerque based 501(c)3 non-profit driven to providing college scholarships to New Mexico students that otherwise would not have the funds to attend a post-secondary education institution.
BEE Scholarships has a particular focus on students that are typically ignored for most other scholarships. These students may have experienced academic and,or personal struggles early on in their high school career, but turned things around. Due to overcoming certain obstacles while in school, these students are often ignored for scholarships due to a lower GPA. BEE Scholarships works to remove these barriers and provide scholarships for these particular students that may have struggled at first, but demonstrated growth, maturity, and an improved sense of academic admiration. Though not reflected solely in GPA, these traits are highlighted in volunteering opportunities they participated in, improved GPA, and are expressed in their personal statements in the scholarship application.
