BEE Scholarships to Hold First Fundraiser Oct. 10 at Lew Wallace Elementary

Burqueños for Education and Empowerment Scholarships (BEE Scholarships), an Albuquerque non-profit driven to providing college scholarships to the city’s high school students will be hosting its first fundraising event at 5:30pm on Friday October 10th at Lew Wallace Elementary.

BEE Scholarships’ first fundraising efforts on Oct. 10 will be in form of a dinner with plates for children and adults running at $5 and $10, respectively.

“We’re hoping to introduce ourselves and our plans to the community with this first event and let them know that it’s truly a grassroots effort by Burqueños for Burqueños,” says BEE Scholarships Vice President Jorge Hernández.

Members of BEE Scholarships will be on hand to speak on the organization’s goals and provide information on how those interested can become members and assist the non-profit’s efforts.

“I have seen too many kids struggle to afford college and eventually drop out,” says BEE Scholarships’ President Matthew Salas. “With BEE, we hope to provide financial assistance to students in order to help them get through the struggles of college so they can graduate and change their community themselves.”

BEE Scholarships initial goal is to award at least five scholarships by the end of this school year and organize volunteer days that both members and scholarship applicants will be asked to attend.

For those interested in becoming members of BEE Scholarships a sign-up sheet will be available at Friday night’s fundraiser.

Individuals unable to attend the event are still encouraged to make a donation via PayPal to the BEE Scholarships‘ email, BEEScholarships@gmail.com.

The media and members of the public are welcomed and encouraged to attend the fundraiser.
