Isabella Lucero- BEE Rising Scholar $500
Jasmine Casillas- Nuestros Valores Charter High School
Jasmine, a senior at Nuestros Valores Charter High School, was “in shock” when she heard she had been awarded BEE’s Scholar Award, its top scholarship awarded to students. “I couldn’t believe it and it really didn’t set in until I was telling my mom,” said Jasmine. Jasmine plans on using her scholarship money to pay for the additional expenses that come with attending the University of New Mexico.
Jasmine is leaning towards majoring Environmental Science, but is uncertain and is now considering Liberals Arts as her focus of study. “I’m not sure what career path I’ll be [taking] but I do know that I want the work I do to make a difference whether it’s just in my community or throughout the country I want to make a positive impact,” continued Jasmine.
Jasmine had some very specific advice for future scholarship applicants: just apply! “This scholarship was specifically designed for students with a not-so-perfect transcript and it’s difficult to find scholarships when you have a low GPA so take advantage” of the ones that are out, advised Jasmine.
We wish Jasmine nothing but the best in school and life!
Zulmy Montes- New America School
Zulmy, a senior at New America School, said she felt both excited and proud upon hearing she was awarded a scholarship. “When I first found out,” said Montes, “I was really surprised and excited!” Her short terms goals consist of becoming a veterinary assistance while in college, while her long term goal after college is to open a nonprofit animal organization to help stray animals. Montes plans on using her scholarship money for books and other material she will need in college.
Montes has advice for future applicants to BEE Scholarships, saying it is best to “be yourself, tell the truth, and hope for the best.” She also wants to thank her teachers, especially Mr. Randall and Ms. Ahrens for helping her so much, and her parents for always believing in her.
We hope for nothing but the best for Zulmy and her future goals! Good luck!
Isabella Lucero- Cottonwood Classical Preparatory School
“I was shocked”, said Isabella, upon finding out she was a scholarship award winner. “I didn’t expect to get [awarded the scholarship],” she continued, “but now that I have, I couldn’t be more ecstatic about it!”
Isabella plans on attending New Mexico State University to pursue an Animal Science degree in the Pre-Vet program at the university. After college, Lucero’s hope is to open her own veterinary practice to continue her “love for animals and helping people through their animals.”
Lucero thanked her immediate family for helping foster her love for animals and the desire to care for and provide animals with kind, loving homes. Lucero also offered some advice to future applicants to BEE Scholarships, saying “just take the leap and apply for the scholarship.”
We wish you the best of luck in all future endeavors!
